About Rongai Route

The Rongai Route starts on the northern side of Kilimanjaro near the Kenyan border, and you can get there by driving 3–4 hours from Moshi or 4–5 hours from Arusha. This path is known for its remote wilderness feel and wide open savannah views at the start of the trail.

The journey covers 65 km and lasts 6 to 7 days, approaching the summit from the north and descending via the Marangu Route. This route is popular because it is drier than the southern routes, making it a reliable option during the wetter months of the year.

Our Kilimanjaro Climbing Packages include this route, offering a quieter and more remote alternative to the busier southern trails. Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing on the Rongai Route is perfect for climbers who want a wilderness experience with open skies and sweeping northern views of the mountain.
