Mawenzi Tarn Camp

Mawenzi Tarn Camp is a scenic high-altitude campsite located beneath the dramatic Mawenzi Peak on Mount Kilimanjaro at approximately 4,315 meters (14,157 feet) above sea level. The camp is mainly used by trekkers on the Rongai and Northern Circuit routes.

The camp is named after the small tarn, or mountain lake, located nearby. Surrounded by towering volcanic rock formations and rugged alpine terrain, Mawenzi Tarn Camp is considered one of the most visually impressive camps on Kilimanjaro. The landscape around the camp is harsh yet beautiful, with clear views of Mawenzi Peak and distant views toward Kibo.

Mawenzi Tarn Camp serves as an important acclimatization point before climbers continue toward Kibo Hut or School Hut for summit attempts. The high altitude and cooler temperatures make proper rest and hydration especially important.
