Important Notes

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is 3 days actually enough time?

Yes, but with a caveat: you won’t be able to see the entire Northern Circuit. A 3-day trip typically focuses on Tarangire, Lake Manyara, and the Ngorongoro Crater.

  • What you miss: The Serengeti. Including the Serengeti in 3 days involves massive amounts of driving (8+ hours one way) or an expensive “fly-in” safari.
  • What you get: High wildlife density. You can realistically see the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) within the Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire alone.
  • Dry Season (June – October): The absolute best for wildlife viewing as animals congregate around water holes. The weather is cool and dry.
  • Short Dry Season (January – February): Great for seeing “calving season” (baby animals) and migratory birds.
  • Rainy Season (April – May): Many “budget” travelers go now for lower prices and lush green scenery, but some roads can be muddy and wildlife harder to spot in thick bush.

Since you’ll be in a 4×4 most of the time, “safari casual” is the rule.

  • Layers: It is freezing in the early morning (especially on the Ngorongoro Crater rim) but hot by midday.
  • Colors: Neutral tones (khaki, tan, olive). Avoid dark blue and black, as they attract tsetse flies.
  • Tech: A power bank (though most safari jeeps have charging ports) and binoculars.
  • Essentials: High SPF sunscreen, insect repellent with DEET, and a wide-brimmed hat.
