For Kilimanjaro Bound cyclists who are not heading to the summit, the cycling starts from Londorosi Gate or from Morum Picnic Site then back to Morum (44 km).

Here’s a breakdown of the itinerary, distances, and elevation gains for this route
Arriving any time at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), there will be a private transfer waiting at the Airport to collect and get you to your hotel in Moshi where you will be able to relax and enjoy your first night in Moshi, Tanzania.
Your Kilimanjaro Bound tour guide will meet you at your hotel for a Mount Kilimanjaro cycling and safety brief, plus a full equipment check.
Distance: Approximately 10 km
Elevation Gain: Around 1000 m
The journey begins at Kilema Gate, where you’ll embark on a scenic ride through rainforests and moorlands. The trail is well-maintained and offers moderate climbs. Kilema Camp, your first night’s destination, provides a comfortable base to acclimatize to the altitude.
Distance: Approximately 18 km
Elevation Gain: Around 770 m
On the second day, you’ll continue your ascent, passing through diverse ecosystems. The trail becomes steeper as you approach Horombo Camp, offering panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. Horombo Camp is a well-established rest point with comfortable accommodations.
Distance: Approximately 10 km
Elevation Gain: Around 1000 m
The journey to Kibo Hut is the most challenging part of the climb. The trail becomes steeper and more rugged, and the altitude significantly increases. You’ll need to push your limits and rely on your training and determination to reach Kibo Hut, the final camp before the summit.

The summit night is the most demanding part of the expedition. You’ll start the ascent in the early hours of the morning, often in the dark. The trail is steep and rocky, and the air is thin. Reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, is a monumental achievement that requires physical and mental toughness. After celebrating your achievement, you’ll descend back to Horombo Camp.

After a leisurely breakfast, you will be ready to make your final descent down to Kilema Gate, across the Alpine Desert and Rain Forest to Kilema Gate.
You will then be transferred to Marangu Gate to sign off of Mount Kilimanjaro and then enjoy a drive back to your hotel, where you can relax, rest and think about your fantastic journey.
Your room at the Lodge is reserved for late checkout so that you can relax before your flight home or a new destination if you signed up for one of our optional excursions.
If you fly back home, your driver will meet you for the transfer to the airport.

In March 2016, seven-time world champion, author and volunteer firefighter Rebecca Rusch and adventurer Patrick Sweeney summited Mount Kilimanjaro.
The duo took on Africa’s highest peak to raise funds and awareness for the nonprofit organization, World Bicycle Relief.
Rusch and Sweeney rode, carried and pushed their bikes to the summit at 19,341 feet then braved the journey back down, with the goal to ultimately raise one dollar for every foot of elevation. Raising $19,341 will equal 131 new bikes for students in Africa.
